An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 9, 4-8 PM. Galley hours are Monday - Saturday, 10-4 PM. LA TATE is located at 4816 West Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90016.

The exhibition,
LA RANDOM, attempts to interface with the jagged kaleidoscope that is Los Angeles.

Peter Liashkov presents work that grapples with the ever changing and chaotic energy of Los Angeles. For Liashkov, this is an amalgamation of iPhone photos, appropriated street art, and digitally altered images all peppered with ground glass, powdered pigments, and enamel spray paint evoking the chorus of distinct cultural voices shouting through the synthetic Californian haze.

Liashkov, born to Russian emigrant parents in Rouen, France, moved to Argentina for six years during his formative adolescent years. His LA RANDOM posters serve as a manifestation of his keen awareness to the sometimes cacophonous, sometimes harmonious cohabitation of multiple voices in one space. A primary focus is on the Latino Community within Los Angeles and the oddly perfect parallel to the Dutch scene of everyday life in Rembrandt’s time. The artist’s complex cultural background of Russia, France, Argentina, and Los Angeles, contributes to his explosive examination of quotidian life, creating striking images that are both familiar and foreign, timeless and contemporary.

Los Angeles’ maze of streets, nature and intersecting lives provides a living canvas that Marianne Sadowskicaptures and transforms through layers upon layers of mixed media. Sadowski documents a vibrant city of contrasts, where the disparities of wealth and poverty in a city of 60 000 unhoused are woven into the landscape. Planographic compositions of lithographic prints merge with cyanotypes of street photography playing with the abstract form and color of LA. Elements of nature are always present in her art and often work as symbols to convey both the fragility and strength of life itself.

Marianne Sadowski is a visual artist and art educator born and raised in Mexico City. Currently, she lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Her interest in immigration and the intersection of cultures reflects her own life story and family history. Her prints and mixed media artworks reflect her socially engaged art practices evolving along themes of immigration, social justice and the intersection of urban life and nature.
